Nestled in the cliffs of the Lot Valley, the ancient village of Rocamadour is a journey through time, faith, and stunning landscapes. This tour will take you through the winding streets of this medieval pilgrimage site, where we’ll explore sanctuaries, breathtaking views, and even a cheese cave or two. Rocamadour’s stone paths have been walked by millions of pilgrims seeking miracles for over a thousand years. From the hidden chapels to the castle ruins at the top, this town is a masterpiece of the Middle Ages that still holds a quiet, almost mystical power.
We meet in the main square, and I’ll give a brief history of Rocamadour’s sacred roots. From there, we’ll start the climb up the “Grand Escalier,” where pilgrims have knelt for centuries.
In the heart of Rocamadour, we’ll step into the chapel housing the Black Madonna, an icon of hope and faith for countless visitors. I’ll share stories of the miracles attributed to this ancient statue.
After a morning exploring, we’ll take a break at a local farm. You’ll have a chance to try the famous Rocamadour goat cheese—soft, creamy, and aged in the caves nearby. Bring a few euros for the tasting.
We’ll end the tour at the top of the village, where the ruins of Rocamadour’s castle await. The views over the valley are extraordinary, and I’ll tell you about the town’s days of knights and defensive sieges.
Rocamadour has a lot of steps, but we’ll take it slow. There are plenty of resting spots where I can fill you in on local lore.
Absolument! There are stalls in town that offer cheese, honey, and other local delicacies to take home.
Excellent, probablement le meilleur à ce jour.
