Lyon, often overlooked by tourists rushing to Paris or Nice, holds its own as France’s gastronomic capital and a city steeped in history. This tour will take you through the winding, cobbled streets of Old Lyon, where you’ll discover Renaissance architecture, hidden traboules (secret passageways), and the birthplace of cinema. I’ll share the stories of silk workers, the influence of the French Resistance, and of course, the city’s world-famous food culture. Whether you’re here for the history, the food, or both, this tour will make you fall in love with Lyon’s charm and its vibrant cultural scene.
We’ll kick off our day right at the heart of Lyon, where we’ll discuss the city's rich history, including its role during the French Resistance.
From Place Saint-Jean, we’ll take a walk through the cobbled streets of Old Lyon. I’ll point out the secret traboules, passageways once used by the silk merchants and now part of Lyon’s charming urban fabric.
After lunch, we’ll head up the hill to visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, offering some of the best views of Lyon. A peaceful break after a busy morning!
I’ll give you some personalized recommendations for the rest of your stay and leave you with a map of Lyon’s hidden gems to explore on your own.
A bouchon is a traditional Lyonnais restaurant that serves classic local dishes, typically hearty and rich.
The terrain is uneven, but it’s manageable. Comfortable shoes are recommended, especially for cobbled streets!
